Why do you teach? I felt that a career in teaching would provide an opportunity to make a difference, or at least an impact, in young people’s lives.
Personal motto/words of wisdom: It’s magic until you understand the science behind it.
Family: Husband, Jim, and six children: Amy, Byron, Lisa, Brit, Eric and Brianna
Pet Peeve: Laziness.
Favorite hobby or leisure activity: Anything involving science: Books, movies, magazines, television (CSI, Forensic Files, Case Crackers)
Person in history you’d most like to meet and why: Rosalind Franklin, scientist. I’d like to ask her what it was like to be a female scientist in the 1950s, and how she “really” felt about her male colleagues receiving credit for her work on the DNA structure.
Why Payson? Four seasons and a great place to raise a family.
In school, who was your favorite teacher and why? In college, Dr. Penny Minturn and Tom Loges. Dr. Minturn introduced me to the fascinating field of anthropology, and Tom Loges had the knack to make college algebra seem easy!
What was your favorite year in school and why? My senior year of high school. We were at the top of the pack, and our school had a seniors-only lounge and drinking fountain. We rocked.
